Maximalist Interior Design? Is there such a thing?

If you have heard of minimalist interior design and thought, I could never do that because I want my home to look lived in. Whereas minimalist is “less is more”, with clean modern lines, a simple neutral colour palette and forms, and avoiding excess ornaments, maximalist does a complete 180 degrees!

Think an eclectic mix of patterns, colours, textures, and objects. So, if you are game to try it there are no rules to follow. That’s the beauty. You can experiment by turning your interior spaces into a reflection of your personality. Place together colours, styles, and textures. Why not try small spaces first like an entryway or a bedroom while you work through this design style and put your stamp on it. Here’s a few tips to get you started:

 Use Lots of Colour

In your bedroom you can lean into blues and red, orange and yellows. Whatever bold colour combinations you wish to have can work so don’t be afraid to try out many combinations. In this bedroom the design boundaries have been pushed with the patterns, textures, and colours used in cushions and linen. That could be a great place for you to start.

Add Artwork and Glamorous Mirrors

If you love hanging distinct and eclectic wall art and frames, then this is for you. Maximalist home decor is all about colourful artwork on the walls. Making the walls totally decorated by creating a collage of artwork generates an impact.

Use a Mixture of Unconventional

Using historical furniture mixed with unconventional shapes and colours creates a scene that typifies a maximalist look in this study nook.

 Create a Dramatic Look

If you like creating dramatic looks then maximalism opens that design door for you. Combining drama and glamour, this entry hall with its chandelier, mirror, horse décor and blooms transports us into a fairytale world.

So, if you have a collection of interesting furniture and décor at home and haven’t yet identified with a particular interior design trend then perhaps Maximalism might interest you. You don’t need to worry about plain and boring with this design style!
