Has Your Walk in Robe become a Dumping Ground?

Where’s my white blouse? I can’t find that denim jacket I wore last Spring! Sound familiar? We’ve all had this happen at some point in our lives. But what if you had a beautifully organised walk-in robe that was not only functional but a peaceful retreat as well? Would you believe me if I told you, it can be done on a budget too? It does take some effort, but it is possible.

SORTING

Edit your items – even if you are selling or staying, now that Spring is here it’s an ideal time to sort through your clothes. This way you can work out if you are using them all. Start by categorising each item into groups that make sense to you. What about.....fits or not, or on trend or let’s face it when you look in the mirror...lol! Once you have one pile in front of you then you could group them like a clothing store. For example, tops, bottoms, casual, business, shoes, etc. Or another way is in your lifestyle activities like work, home, sleep, exercise, parties, holidays etc.

STORAGE

Clean and assess the state of your cupboard, drawer and hanging spaces. Do you need to repair any areas? Are there spaces where extra storage can be built in or added? Hanging space means more money when selling so have that in mind further down the track. Drawers can be used to store lots of different sized containers which can neaten and store jewellery, cosmetics and other small items like underwear and T-shirts. Use storage containers with lids to store seasonal clothing on shelves.

STYLING

Here’s the fun step. Just like styling your bedroom with a chosen colour, why not choose a colour scheme in your wardrobes. Once you have worked this out, you could use wallpaper in the back of old shelves, paint shelving or choose storage containers in a particular colour. Use timber hangers and colour code your hanging clothing. Why not add some artificial plants or flowers? If you have a walk-in robe that’s big enough, you could add a beautiful soft rug and or stool. Styling can be added to super small built-in robes as well.

Have a bit of fun in your wardrobes! There are plenty of budget friendly storage ideas at IKEA, Big W and Kmart to get you started. The idea of organising may seem super overwhelming at first but with some planning and tough decision making, along with creative ideas, you can turn your clothing space into somewhere happy to walk into.

We are happy to help you get started on your organisation journey.
