6 Helpful Hints When Selling a Home with Kids

Purge

Now is the time to donate all those clothes and toys that the kids have grown out of or haven’t played with for ages.

Involve Them

The more involved they are the more invested they will be. Give your kids tasks each weekend to get ready for showings. You can also use this as an opportunity to teach them about donating and purging. Have each child fill a bag of clothes and toys to donate.

Use Kid Friendly Storage

Use toy storage bins or organization systems like coat racks for hand bags and hats. Or purchase wicker baskets for a more grown-up look.

Create Jobs

Display a task sheet with jobs allotted to members of the family. This is particularly helpful for open homes. For example you can assign someone rubbish duty, another dishes, and someone else pick-up. Blast some music and get everyone going on their to-do lists.

Keep Toys in Bedrooms

Packing away toys in a single area per child is far easier on open days compared to multiple rooms. Allocate one lidded basket for each child to store their favourite toys during the sale. Prepack all other toys away.

Pack a Travel Bag

For a quick and easy exit on open home day, have a bag ready packed to take for each child once the house is ready. This way you can concentrate solely on the presentation, collect the kids and pets and either go for a walk or drive to the nearest park.
